How do you make an insurance claim for a car accident?

Unfortunately, last night I was in a small car accident. How do I go about making an insurance claim for this accident?

I’m sorry to hear that; I hope everyone involved is okay! To file a claim, you’ll need to call your insurance company.
It’s helpful to have the following information handy:
  • Information about anyone else involved in the accident (names, vehicle details, contact info, insurance)
  • Accident details (weather, location, time of day, what happened, etc.)
  • Police report (if there was one)
  • Photos of any damage
  • Any expenses you’ve had to pay so far (i.e. towing)
  • Information about your preferred auto shop
