How do you lower car insurance in Michigan?

I recently moved from Lansing to Ann Arbor, and I noticed my car insurance rates went up. I know there are lots of things that affect rates, but what can I do to lower my car insurance costs?

Michigan car insurance costs
are almost 30% higher than the national average. Fortunately, you’re not powerless when it comes to premiums!
Here are a few things you can do to lower car insurance costs in Michigan:
  • Bundle your policies
. If you’ve got more than one car or need homeowner’s or renter’s insurance, combine policies with the same insurer. They’ll reward you with discounts.
  • Raise your deductible. Sure, a low deductible sounds good if you’re short on cash, but it means a higher monthly insurance bill. If you have an emergency fund, consider raising your deductible. Even going up to a $750 deductible from one that’s $500 could lower your premium!
  • Shop around and
    compare quotes
. If you’re like most people, it’s probably been a while since you shopped for car insurance. Check out the competition! You might find a different provider that offers the same coverage at a much better price.
