How do you jump a car with a generator?

I drove up to my cabin in the Poconos and accidentally left the lights on in my car when I parked. Now the battery is dead. I have a really nice generator on the property—could that be useful in this situation? How do you jump a car with a generator?

I’m sorry to hear that you’re in this situation. Luckily, if your generator has an electric start, it can
jumpstart
your car.
You will need to connect your jumper cables to the generator’s external battery and to your car the same way you would if you were using another car. Once properly connected, press the electric start on the generator, wait a few minutes, and you should be able to start your car.
If you’re having trouble, your car battery may be beyond saving, and you will likely need to replace it.
