Can you put air in a flat tire?

I came out of the house this morning to find one of my tires was flat, so I’m guessing it must have had a slow leak or something. I need to go to work soon and I do have a tire pump, so I was wondering if it was possible to put air in a flat tire?

You can put air in a
flat tire
so long as you do one of the following first:
  • Patch the tire: Remove the wheel, then remove the tire from the rim and patch the leak from the inside.
  • Plug the tire: Use a basic tire repair kit to seal the leak from the outside without removing the wheel.
Once you’ve taken care of the leak, follow these steps to put air in your flat tire:
  • Step 1: Check the correct PSI for your car’s tires either on the inside of your driver’s door or from your tire manufacturer’s recommendation.
  • Step 2: Connect your air pump to your tire’s valve system.
  • Step 3: Pump air into the flat tire, checking that it’s holding air.
  • Step 4: Check the PSI periodically and adjust your air input as needed.
If your tire is holding the correct air pressure, then you should be able to drive on it—at least for a little while.
Don’t forget to check if you have a roadside assistance plan or
towing and labor coverage
that covers flat tires.
Pro tip: You may still be able to inflate a tire with a slow leak if you aren’t able to patch or plug it, but you should drive your car straight to a mechanic for a repair.
