While frustrating,
car insurance
rates increasing over time is fairly common. That said, finding lower rates isn’t out of the realm of possibility!
Insurance rates vary based on personal information and insurance companies. Since you have two accidents on your record, your rates will be slightly higher until they fall off. After three to five years, you should see your rate decrease as long as you maintain a
clean driving record
.
Beyond shopping around, look at the coverage on your policy and what discounts you’re eligible for. If you have optional coverages like
towing and labor
or
rental reimbursement
, drop them to reduce your rate.
You can also enroll in a driving behavior or telematics program or taking a driver training course. Both will reduce your car insurance rates.
Although seeing your rate increase is stressful, you may have to be patient. You should consider switching companies now if you can find a lower rate, then at every renewal, continue to shop around to ensure you always have the best rate possible.
