How do you get off your parents’ car insurance?

I’m heading off to college in another state. I’m on my parents’ car insurance currently, but they live in New York and I’m going to school in California. I figure I’ll probably have to get off of their policy. What’s the easiest way to be removed from my parents’ car insurance?

You typically would need to adjust your car insurance if you were changing states, but some car insurance providers make special exceptions for college students.
Before you get off your parents’ car insurance, have them check with their provider to see if they can still cover you while you’re attending college in
California
.
It’s worth trying because car insurance can be very expensive for drivers under age 25. Young drivers are considered riskier because they have less experience driving.
If you do have to get your own insurance policy, shop around to find the best rates. The

Jerry is an insurance comparison app that shops for low prices with over 50 different insurance companies for free. You will get quotes in seconds, can make changes at any time, and if you ever have any questions, agents are just a text away!
