How do you get insurance on a car you just bought?
I just bought a new car, and I’m really excited! But I’m not sure how to add a car to an existing insurance policy. How can I add my car to my current insurance plan?

Congrats on your new ride! I’m happy to say that adding a second car to your auto insurance policy is pretty easy, and starts with contacting your provider.
Reach out to your current provider and let them know you want to update your current policy—you can usually do this online or over the phone—and explain you want to add a new car. You’ll need to provide basic information of both your current policy and the new car, including:
- Current auto policy number
- License plate number
- Vehicle identification number (VIN)
- Make, model and year
From there, they’ll adjust your policy to account for your new vehicle. However, if your new rate is a little high for your taste, you may want to consider
switching insurance providers
