How do you get car parts from a junkyard?

I'm fixing up my old car, but I want to do it as cheaply as possible, as I'm on a pretty tight budget right now. How do I get parts from junkyards? Will it really be cheaper?

Getting parts at a junkyard can be a great alternative when you’re replacing pieces of your car, especially if you’re operating on a budget. To find parts at a junkyard, either call a local junkyard or search for specific parts using an online junkyard database like Pull-A-Part.
Here are a couple of tips to keep in mind:
  • Don’t buy belts, brake pads, or any other parts that tend to wear out quickly at the junkyard. It’s much safer to buy these items new, and they’re relatively inexpensive.
  • Be sure to check any parts for damage before you buy them. Some junkyards will even offer tested or warrantied parts, so don’t be shy about asking the workers for their opinions on different parts before you buy.
If you’re looking to save money in other ways too, the easiest place to start is with your car insurance. Lots of people pay too much for their car insurance, but the
Jerry
app makes it easy to find the lowest price for the coverage you want. Jerry will collect insurance quotes for you, so you don’t have to worry about searching for the right insurer.
