How do you get car insurance with an international driver’s license?

I’m thinking of moving to the US soon. I would need a car and I have a driver's license in my home country. Could I get car insurance with my international license?

Leaving your home and moving to a new country is a big undertaking, but thankfully, you can get
car insurance
with an international driver’s license.
Before coming to the US, be sure you have these two documents:
  • Your driver’s license from your home country
  • An International Driving Permit or IDP
Since you have a foreign driver’s license, be sure to acquire your IDP before coming to the US. Once you’re here, you wouldn’t be eligible for one.
That said, even with an international driving permit, it can be a bit difficult to find insurance. Not every insurance company accepts international licenses, so you may have to shop around to find a company that accepts it and has a good rate. It’s also important to note that since you don’t have an American credit score or American driving history, your insurance will be more than the average US citizen’s.
Since the US insurance system can be difficult to navigate, use the
Jerry
app. Jerry is the easiest and most effective way to find a car insurance policy that is customized for you. Jerry’s friendly agents are also available by text to answer any questions you may have about US insurance.
Good luck with your move!
