How do you get car insurance at 17?

I’m 17, and my parents told me that as long as I cover my own car insurance, they’ll help me cover the cost of my car and help put me on its title. How can I get my own car insurance policy at 17?

Kudos to you for being so independent! However, at 17, you cannot sign a contract by yourself, as you are still a minor. You still have a couple of options, though!
While you can’t sign the car insurance policy by yourself, your parents can sign it with you. This does mean that your parents will be responsible for anything that happens behind the wheel and can be expensive, since you’re a young driver.
Taking this into consideration, your best course of action may be to have your parents add you to their policies and for you to pay them the difference in the new total. This will likely keep the costs down, and will keep your parents from signing on for any extra responsibility, too.
If you and your parents want to make sure you’re getting the best deal on a plan that covers all three of you, check out the Jerry app. We’ll get you customized quotes from top insurers, so that all your parents need to do is pick the plan that works best for all of you. And once they’ve picked, we’ll even help with all the paperwork and phone calls involved with switching over!
