How do you get a hardship license in Massachusetts?

I work two jobs, one during the day and one during the night. Sometimes the traffic is so bad during rush hour, I have to speed on local roads to get to my night job on time. Unfortunately, I got a lot of tickets, was labeled a habitual traffic offender (HTO), and received a license suspension. I need my car to get to my night job, though! How can I get a hardship license in Massachusetts?

Losing your driving rights when you need to get to two different jobs definitely complicates things.
You may be able to get a hardship license in
Massachusetts
at the discretion of the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV). To be eligible, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:
  • You have not driven since you received the HTO suspension
  • You have served the one-year suspension minimum for all active suspension/revocations
  • You have completed the National Safety Council Driver Retraining Course within three years of your request
  • You have proof of legitimate hardship from your employer, stating your need for the hardship license and your work hours
  • You have proof regarding your transportation availability (or lack thereof)
Additionally, you will need to install an ignition interlock device if your suspension is also related to an OUI suspension or revocation.
To apply for a hardship license, you will need to attend a hearing at a select RMV hearing site. All the
required documents
related to your offense must be presented to qualify.
A license suspension usually leads to a significant increase in your
car insurance
rates. However, you can switch to a cheaper policy without compromising coverage using the
