How do you get a car out of the impound without car insurance?

My grandmother’s car got impounded while she was parked somewhere she shouldn’t have been. We just found out she doesn’t have insurance on it, either. Can you get an uninsured car out of impound?

The first thing you need to do is find out if the lot requires proof of insurance to get the car out of impound. In some states, not having insurance can be the reason for the car being impounded!
If you need proof, it’s important to get the car insured as soon as possible. With your new policy, you should be able to get your car back by paying any applicable fees and bringing the necessary documents to the impound lot. Typically, you will be required to bring the following documents:
  • Proof of registration
  • Proof of  vehicle ownership
  • Proof of identity, such as an ID or driver’s license
Of course, if the lot doesn’t require insurance, then you should be good to get it immediately with the documents listed above.
Remember: Make sure to get some insurance for the car as soon as possible so your grandma can legally get back out on the road.
