How do you get a car dealer license?

I have some extra space on my farmland and want to put a car dealership there. How do I obtain the proper licensing for it?

Well, that sounds like a pretty smart use of some extra land! Unfortunately, this process has some serious steps to avoid the wrong people getting into it for
obvious reasons
. Thankfully, the process isn’t too difficult to understand!
Seeing as the first step is finding a location, let’s move on to step two. For this, you have to get a zoning permit or location approval from the local licensing authority, depending on where you live.
Next, you have to achieve compliance with:
  • State dealer location
  • Office
  • Displace space requirements
While licensing varies by state, you’ll typically need to take and pass a pre-licensing dealer training course and examination. Once you pass, you’ll need to submit an application, fingerprints, and pass a criminal background check. After approval, you should be good to go!
Once you have a dealer license, you’ll need to ensure you have the proper insurance for both your business and
cars
. While you’ll need a commercial policy for your dealership, it never hurts to look at your personal auto policy as well!
You may even be able to bundle your policies together to save even more! To see what your options are, talk to the agents at
