Sentry Mode is a great way to keep your Tesla
safe, especially if you regularly park in public parking lots or garages. While it may seem complicated, formatting a USB drive for Sentry Mode is relatively easy. To format the USB drive for Tesla’s Sentry Mode, you’ll first need a compatible USB with the following features:
Sustained write speed of 4 MB per second
Once you have the correct USB drive, the easiest way to format it is by inserting it into your Tesla’s front USB port or glove box. When a USB drive is inserted, your Tesla can automatically format it for you. Just go to Safety and Security, then Format a USB Device.
If successful, you’ll then have the ability to save recordings and enable Sentry Mode on your Tesla. Should your Tesla be unable to format your USB, you’ll need to use a Mac or Windows computer instead.
To do this, you’ll need to format your USB drive in exFAT or MS-DOS FAT. You’ll also need to manually create a folder called TelsaCam, which allows your Tesla to save its recordings.
After getting Sentry Mode set up in your Tesla, make sure your car insurance is up to date, as well. Having a good car insurance policy is key to protecting you and your vehicle on the road.
