How do you fix your car dent with a hair dryer?

I have a dent in my car door that I’d like to fix myself. I’ve heard you can fix dents with a hair dryer. How would I fix a car dent with a hair dryer??

You heard correctly! A hairdryer is a fairly effective way to fix small dents in your car’s body.
Before you begin, make sure that both sides of the dent are accessible. You will need insulated gloves to protect your hands from any heat applied to the dent. To fix the dent:
  • Set your hairdryer to medium: Hold it about six inches away from the dent.
  • **Apply warm air: In the area surrounding the dent, apply heat for about two minutes.
  • Push the dent out: Use your hands to push the dent—and voila! The worst of the damage should be gone!
If the dent is too severe, consider taking your car to an
auto body repair shop
. They can give you a quote on the cost to fix the dent.
Another option may be using your
car insurance
. If another car caused the dent or you have
collision coverage
, you could opt to submit the claim to have the dent repaired.
If you don’t have collision insurance and would like to see the cost to increase your coverage, use the
