How do you fix a large dent in a car hood?

I dropped a tool in my garage yesterday. Of course, it landed on my car hood and dented it. How do I fix it?

Oh no, what bad luck! Let’s get that
fixed as soon as possible
.
There are two do-it-yourself methods you can try.
  • The first is called the mallet method. To do this, remove your hood and lay it upside down on a blanket. Hammer around the edges until the dent pops out.
  • You can also try the plunger method. Place your household plunger over the dent and pull until it pops back into place. This one works best on smaller dents.
Should that not fix the dent, you’ll definitely want to visit a professional. Dents can be tricky and you don’t want to cause further damage to your hood. A car
body repair shop
typically has the tools to fix dents.
