How do you fix a car’s overcharged AC system?

My car’s air conditioning wasn’t working as it should, so I added more refrigerant. I must have done something wrong by adding too much, because it’s just blowing hot air. How do I fix this?

Refrigerants are hazardous materials that must be handled and disposed of properly, so it’s best to have a mechanic correct an overcharged AC system for you.
Trained mechanics use special machinery to properly remove excess refrigerant from vehicles. It’s usually best to hire a technician to
recharge your AC system
.
Here’s the process to fix your overcharged AC system:
  • Remove: The mechanic uses a machine with vacuums to remove or bleed excess coolant.
  • Monitor: The machine monitors pressure levels while running to ensure levels reach normal ranges.
  • Adjust: Once levels reach normal ranges, the mechanic stops the machine.
It’s nifty—the fancy machine contains the extra coolant so it can be reused later.
It’s critical to fix an overcharged AC system ASAP. That’s because too much refrigerant can cause too much pressure and heat, resulting in hot air and possibly a damaged AC compressor (which is
very expensive
to repair).
