How do you find someone's car insurance?

What can I do to find someone’s car insurance? I got into a fender bender recently. I know I need to get the other driver's insurance after an accident, but I'm not sure when or how to do it.

“The aftermath of an accident can be scary, confusing, and really stressful. Even if you forget to ask for it in the moment, you can still find someone’s car insurance information after the fact.
That being said, the easiest way to get someone’s information
after an accident
is to ask the driver directly at the scene. But if you forget or are otherwise unable to get the other driver’s information, don’t worry!
Here are some ways to get someone’s car insurance information after an accident:
  • Calling the police can be a helpful option, especially if they were at the scene of your accident. Since the driver would need to show them proof of insurance, you’d likely be able to get the information from the cops. Even if the accident was a hit and run, the police may be able to help if you can give them the other driver’s license plate number.
  • Contacting your local DMV is another great option. However, you will need to provide verifiable information—including accident details and your own contact information—for the DMV to legally give you the other driver’s insurance information.
  • Getting in touch with your insurance provider is probably your best path of action. If you have the other driver’s license plate information, they can track down their insurance provider and deal with them directly. Plus, you’ll already need to contact your insurer to file a claim.
If your insurance provider isn’t being as helpful as you’d like, try using
