How do you find out if your car has all-wheel drive?

I live in Texas, but my sister has moved up north and wants us to visit this winter. I want to drive there, but if my car can’t handle all the snow, I might just rent something. How do I check that my car has all-wheel drive?

“Making sure your vehicle is safe before leaving for your trip is smart! All-wheel drive will definitely help while you’re driving on slippery roads.
You can check for all-wheel drive before you visit a couple of ways:
  • Look up your VIN (vehicle identification number) for any mention of all-wheel drive on your car
  • Check your car’s manual * With your car off, look under your car for an axle shaft. It looks like a large bar from the front of your car to the back. If you see this, there’s a good chance you have all-wheel drive.
If you don’t have all-wheel drive, you can get snow chains on your tires. Do note that you can’t drive fast on these; they help with traction and are meant only for speeds of 25 mph or slower. But if you’re stuck in the snow, they can be helpful.
When traveling far from home, it’s also helpful to have roadside assistance. With

in your pocket, you’ll never have to worry about being stranded. Jerry provides industry-leading roadside assistant, including jump starts, lockout services, key replacement, and towing.
Good luck driving through a winter wonderland to visit your sister. I’m sure you will do great!”
