How do you file an insurance claim on a car?

I live in a college town, and someone vandalized my car after a sports game. It’s covered in spray paint now. Can I file a claim on this? How do I file a claim?

I’m sorry to hear someone vandalized your car. Your insurance will likely only cover the spray paint damage if you have
comprehensive coverage
on your policy. Whether you end up filing a claim, it’s recommended that you file a police report to document the situation properly.
Take pictures of the damage and then get some
quotes from a body shop
or mechanic. (If your insurance company will be covering the damage, they will likely find a body shop for you from their list of pre-approved businesses.)
Before you file a claim, compare the body shop quotes you get to your
deductible
, which is the amount you have to pay before your insurance will kick in. It might not be worth it to file a claim if your total repair costs are cheaper than your deductible.
If you decide to file a claim, simply call your insurance agent, log in to your provider’s website, or use their mobile app and file a vandalism claim. Provide photographic evidence and keep track of the claim number you receive to follow your progress.
Any time you file a claim, your insurance prices may rise the following renewal. If you’re in the market for a lower rate,
