Good question! There are a variety of ways to get rid of noise from your car stereo, depending on the source of your music. The methods to fix this noise vary from rewiring to attaching extra components that filter noise, depending on the source.
If you are plugging your phone into an aux cord and then your car, and are noticing a loud noise when you plug your phone in to charge, you’ve accidentally created a ground loop.
The interference from the charging battery of your phone can be fixed by purchasing a ground loop isolator. This plugs into your phone and elements that ground loop interference.
If you have an
aftermarket
stereo and notice the sound gets worse when the engine revs higher, you might have a bad ground. When installing the sound system, the electrical leads need to have a ground wire to complete the electrical circuit.
If the ground wire is smaller than the electrical wire, it can’t handle the electricity. Both wires need to be the same size. Another option is that the wire isn’t connected properly, and needs to be fixed more securely.
If you have an electric car, be sure to avoid AM radio. The motors in electric cars generate electromagnetic interference. This interference makes AM radio a hot mess that doesn’t work in electric cars.
This means electric cars usually don’t even have AM radio as an option, opting for FM, internet radio, satellite radio, or streaming services instead.
Before worrying about your stereo, you need affordable insurance for your car.
