How do you drive an electric car efficiently?

I’m thinking about getting my first electric car, but I want to make sure that I’ve done the appropriate research to get the most out of my new car. Is there a way to drive an electric car that maximizes efficiency and gives me the most possible range before needing to recharge?

Many drivers of
electric cars
report that the transition from driving a gas-powered car is pretty seamless, but there are a few things that can maximize your EV driving experience.
  • Don’t floor it. Electric cars are known for their powerful torque, but abusing your new car’s ability to accelerate quickly will cut into your range.
  • Utilize regenerative braking. Every time you slow down or come to a stop, your car is able to use regenerative braking to bring power back to the battery.
  • Use heat and AC only when necessary to conserve power.
  • Just like gas-powered cars, keeping your tire pressure at optimal levels will help increase your range.
  • Use good charging hygiene. Most manufacturers recommend only charging to about 80% to extend your battery’s life.
