How do you dispose of expired car seats?
My daughter has gone through a couple of car seats in the last year—she’s just growing so fast! My husband and I are wondering what to do with these old and expired car seats. Where do you take expired car seats?

Disposing of expired car seats can be really tricky because you don’t want to give them away. You could be putting a little one in the way of harm.
Some city recycling programs or local recycling plants may allow you to recycle used or expired seats, but you must call to confirm first, as every location may have different rules on this.
If you can’t recycle the seats, car seats can be disposed of if they are clearly unusable. The best way to make this happen is to destroy the seat yourself and then have it picked up as part of your trash.
You can destroy it by cutting out the seat cover or cutting the straps. When you put your broken seat out to be collected, write DO NOT USE or EXPIRED in large, visible permanent marker to ensure that no one picks it up and attempts to use it.
