How do you dispose of an electric car battery?

I’ve been reading up on electric cars and noticed that batteries are typically good for around 10 to 20 years. That’s great, but what happens to batteries once it’s time to dispose of them?

When it comes time to replace or dispose of your
electric cars
battery, a few things have to happen.
The batteries inside electric cars take up the full wheelbase of the car and weigh hundreds of pounds. Lithium-ion batteries are also very toxic and can cause fires that spread rapidly and are very hard to put out.
Thankfully many batteries can actually be repurposed before being destroyed. They can be used as energy storage or power for other devices. If they can’t be repurposed, they are then recycled. To recycle an EV battery, the packs first have to be broken apart into their individual cells. The cells can then either be burned or dissolved in acid.
Recyclers then extract still-useful materials like cobalt and nickel to be repurposed and reused.
