How do you connect Bluetooth to a Ford Taurus?

I recently got a new (to me, at least) Ford Taurus, and I’m trying to get everything set up and reset any old features from the previous owner. I want to connect my phone to my new car, but I can’t figure out how to pair it. How do you connect Bluetooth in a Ford Taurus?

The steps to connect Bluetooth to your
Ford Taurus
may vary, depending on your model year and trim level. For models released between 2013 and 2019, the steps are relatively simple:
  • Navigate to your vehicle’s settings on the touchscreen infotainment display (hit the icon in the lower right-hand side of the screen shaped like a gear wheel)
  • Select the option titled “Phone” then turn Bluetooth ON
  • On your mobile device, navigate to phone settings and make sure Bluetooth is also turned ON
  • Return to your vehicle’s touchscreen and select the option titled “Bluetooth Devices”
  • Select “Add Phone”
  • This will make your vehicle discoverable via your phone’s Bluetooth. At this time, a unique six-digit PIN might appear on the screen, depending on your model year and options
  • Select the SYNC device when it appears on your phone’s Bluetooth list to initiate pairing between the devices
  • Confirm the PIN (if necessary)
And that’s it! Once pairing is complete, your screen will display a confirmation message, and you’ll be able to use your phone hands-free while driving.
But in models older than 2012, things get a little more complicated. That’s because Bluetooth capabilities were only available on certain trim levels which varied year to year on
Ford
models. For example, in 2012 only the top-tier SHO trim level featured standard Bluetooth connectivity, while in the 2012 Taurus Bluetooth became available in the Limited trim.
