How do you clear your driving record in Washington state?

I just received a traffic ticket the other day when I was driving in my home city of Tacoma. I read that I could clear my driving record, but I’m not sure how. What do I need to do to clear my driving record in Washington State?

Your
Washington state driving record
can be cleared in two ways:
  • Taking a state-approved
    defensive driving course
: These courses often take about four hours to complete and can be completed online for $40 to $50. This may not completely clear your record, but it could help reduce the number of points on there, depending on your violation.
  • Allowing violations to drop off over time: Tickets fall off your Washington driving record after five years, so you could always play the waiting game if you don’t have any other options.
