How do you clean a metal gas tank?
I found a really cool old motorcycle I want to purchase, but the metal gas tank has some rust. Is there a way to clean the gas tank, or should I find a different motorcycle?

Learning how to clean a metal gas tank is possible, even if there’s rust present. As long as the tank itself is still structurally sound, you can clean it up and keep using it.
Here are some common ways to clean a metal gas tank:
- Abrasives: Combine something abrasive like gravel or loose nuts and bolts with water and swish around the gas tank to loosen and wash out rust
- Chemicals: Vinegar and baking soda or even isopropyl alcohol can be used to clean a metal gas tank chemically
- Electrolysis: You can suspend the tank in an ionic substance and pass an electrical current through it to remove rust, however, it’s best to have a professional do it instead of trying a DIY method
