My insurance policy may have lapsed, but I’m not sure. How do I check if I have insurance on my car?

Great question! A
lapse in coverage
can lead to increased premium rates on your next policy and leave you financially responsible in the event of an accident. Not to mention, it’s illegal in most states to drive without insurance!
That said, there are a few different ways you can check to see if you have an active insurance policy.
  • Check your
    declaration page
: It should list your policy term dates. If it’s within the dates of your policy term, you’re likely still covered.
  • Check your bank statements: Look for auto-withdrawals from your insurance company. If they are taking money out of your account every month, it’s likely your insurance policy is active.
  • Call your insurance company: Ask for the status of your account. If you don’t know the name of your insurer, check your
    insurance card
, which will include information like your policy number and contact info for your provider.
And, if you find you need a new insurance policy, download the
Jerry
app. Jerry generates quotes from over 50 of the nation’s leading providers in just minutes. And, it’s free to get quotes!
Hope you discover that your policy is in good shape!
