How do you check if a car has been written off?

How can I check if my car was written off? My car was seriously damaged in a big incident. An adjuster came to look at it a few days ago. It seems like a total loss, but I have no car and no information!

I’m sorry to hear about your car! I know this is a stressful situation. The easiest way to check if your car has been written off (or declared a total loss) is to call your
car insurance
and ask about their decision.
To write off a car, your insurance provider must evaluate its
actual cash value
and damage. If the repairs cost more than the car itself, they’ll declare it a total loss. While it’s frustrating to wait, your insurance may need more time to determine these costs.
In the meantime, you may be eligible for a subsidized rental car if your policy includes
rental reimbursement coverage
. With rental reimbursement, your provider will help you rent a car while they work on yours.
If your provider doesn’t offer rental reimbursement, you can always use
Jerry
to explore your other options for the future. A licensed broker, the Jerry app can help you find and compare quotes from over 50 top providers in minutes. When you find the coverage you want, Jerry can even help you buy your new policy and cancel your old one!
