How do you charge an all-electric car when stranded?

I want an electric car, but my dad is worried about me being alone stranded on the side of the highway if the battery runs out. How do you charge an all-electric car when stranded?

Good question! It’s unlikely you’ll run out of power on the road, but if you do, you’ll need to call roadside assistance to help get you rolling again. Worrying is part of your dad’s job, but he might not need to worry quite so much about this particular issue.
It’s pretty unlikely that you’ll ever run out of power on the side of the road. You get lots of warnings from any electric vehicle, and electric cars like Teslas give you lots of low battery warnings before they actually go down for the count.
In fact, they can actually help you find a service station with a plug-in so that you don’t run out of battery. If you don’t have a Tesla, there are apps you can get that ill show you the location of your nearest charging station, so you never have to worry about running out of juice.
If the worst does happen and you run out of power, you’ll need to call for help. Jumpstarting the lithium battery that gives your car power is a dangerous idea that won’t work. Your best bet is to call for
roadside assistance
.
If you do, make sure you tell them you have an electric vehicle, so they can send the right equipment to help you. This could be a flatbed truck or a portable charger, depending on the company you call. They can tow you to the nearest charging station, or home.
Making sure you have active roadside assistance you can count on should help calm some of your dad’s fears.
Whether your car is electric or gas, you always need insurance.
