How do you charge a GEM electric car?
I’m thinking of buying a GEM electric car, but I want to be sure I can charge it easily at home. How do you charge a GEM electric car?

Good question! GEM electric cars are easy to charge as long as you have the equipment you need.
Electric car charging is fairly straightforward. Make sure you read your owners’ manual for specifications on what kind of plug-ins and cable you need to safely charge your GEM.
Step 1: Open the hood, locating the on-board battery charger.
Step 2: With a flooded-type battery, check the water level first. Your owners manual can tell you if that applies to you.
Step 3: Determine if you have a regular charging battery or a fast charge.
Step 4: For regular charging, make sure to use a GFCI equipped cord if the outlet you’re using isn’t GFCI protected. If the plug is GFCI protected, you can use a high quality extension cord. Don’t use a GFCI cord with a GFCI protected outlet.
Step 5: For a fast charge vehicle, use a charging station with a J1772 connection, or an adapter cord can be used to plug into a standard outlet.
Step 6: Plug the battery charger from the vehicle into the wall. Make sure you use a dedicated circuit to avoid overloading.
The charger will automatically shut off when the vehicle is fully charged, monitoring the battery to keep it above 97% consistently. You can see the state of charge of the batteries in the rider information center. It’ll say “C” when charging.
