How do you change the rotors on a Ford Expedition?

Would I be able to change the rotors on my Ford Expedition at home? It would be a lot cheaper if I just had to buy the parts, but I’m not sure where to start.

Doing car repairs at home is a great way to save money. But just remember that changing rotors isn’t a beginner repair; you may need a bit of knowledge before you attempt the repair. But if you’re feeling confident, here’s how to change the rotors on a Ford Expedition:
  • Put on personal protective equipment, including gloves and eye protection.
  • Engage the parking brake.
  • Choose a wheel to start with and use a lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts holding the wheel in place.
  • Slide a jack under the car, then jack it up until you can support it with
    two jack stands
    .
  • Fully remove the lug nuts and remove the wheel.
  • Use a socket wrench to remove the caliper bolts. This may require some force.
  • Pull the brake caliper up and out of the way. Sit it on the control arm or the leaf spring, but don’t let it hang from the brake line. This can cause the brake to break the next time you use your car.
  • Now, you should be able to slip the rotors off by hand and replace them with your new rotors. If you have difficulties removing the old rotors, hit the rotor hat with a hammer to loosen them.
  • Reassemble the wheel by following the directions in reverse order.
  • Be sure to test your new rotors before you hit the road!
