With the right tools and know-how, you should definitely be able to change your 1999 Ford F150’s
PCV valve yourself! You’ll need some pliers, an adjustable wrench, silicone spray, and a new PCV valve. Then follow these instructions:
Locate the PCV valve, which is typically located in the passenger side valve cover
Remove the PCV valve hose. You might be able to just slip it off, but other models may be held down by two bolts, which can be removed using a wrench or pliers
Install the new PCV valve by sliding it in—you can use the silicone spray to help with installation. In other models, again, you might have to tighten the bolts to secure the valve
Connect the hose to the PCV valve. Install the hose clamps and, if required, the electrical plug
And you’re done! It’s not the most complicated car repair out there, but if you aren’t confident, it’s best to take your Ford to a mechanic for some professional help.
