How do you change the oil in a 2013 Honda Accord?

With gas prices so high, I want to cut back on other car expenses. I figure one way to do that is to change my own oil, but I’ve never done it before. How do I change the oil in my 2013 Honda Accord?

Doing routine maintenance at home can save you tons of money in the long term. To change the oil in your 2013
Honda
Accord, you’ll need:
  • 4.4 quarts of new 0W-20 oil
  • Oil filter
  • Belt wrench
  • Funnel
  • 17mm socket with 3/8” wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Paper towels or rag
First, warm up the engine. The oil should be at normal running temperature so it drains easily. Then turn the engine off and do the following.
  • Pop the hood
and remove the engine oil fill cap
  • Place the drain pan below, and remove the drain bolt so the oil starts to drain
  • Use the belt wrench to remove the oil filter and clean up remaining oil, dirt, and grime
  • Lightly oil the oil gasket and install new filter
  • Reinstall the drain bolt
  • Fill the engine with recommended amount of oil (4.4 quarts for the 4-cyl, 4.5 quarts for the 6-cyl)
  • Put the engine oil fill cap back on, close the hood, and start the engine
  • Check that there are no leaks
  • Turn off engine
Great job! You just changed the oil in your 2013 Honda Accord!
