How do you change the key battery for a Toyota Camry?

I didn’t realize that you had to change key fob batteries, but my key hasn’t been working lately. According to the internet, my battery is probably the problem. How can I replace the battery in my Toyota Camry key?

It’s true—key fobs do need new batteries occasionally! Here’s how to change the key battery for your
Toyota Camry
:
  • Buy a CR2032 battery at a grocery store or big-box retailer.
  • On the side of the key fob, you should see an area that says push. Press this to remove the metal key from your key fob.
  • Using a flathead screwdriver or another pry tool, pull apart the halves of the key fob.
  • Now, you should be able to remove the old battery, noting where the negative and positive ends are sitting as you do so.
  • Install your new battery in the key fob. Make sure that the negative and positive terminals are lined up appropriately.
  • Once your battery is in place, you can press the two halves back together.
  • Slide your metal key back into place, then test your key fob to make sure it’s functioning properly!
