How do you change the battery in your Honda Civic key fob?

I’ve got a Honda Civic, and the key fob stopped working. I’m about to go on a road trip, and I really need it before I leave. What’s the best way to change the battery in a Honda key fob?

Road trips
can be loads of fun—especially when everything’s in working order. Luckily, it’s easy to change the battery in a Honda key fob when you follow these steps:
  • Start by pushing and sliding the button above your Honda logo to release the metal key.
  • Put the key against the crack between each half and use it to pry open the fob.
  • Hold your thumb just above the battery to stop any extra pieces from falling out.
  • Gently remove the dead battery, noting the direction it was installed.
  • Insert your new battery in the same position you found the old one. Use the + and - markers to guide you.
  • Carefully realign each half of the fob and snap it back together.
  • Reinsert your metal key and test out the fob!
Hopefully, these steps will help you replace the battery in your key fob. If you’d rather not deal with it yourself, buy your new battery from a local Honda dealer. If you ask, they may replace it for you for free.
