How do you change the battery in a Toyota smart key?
The key fob for my Toyota Corolla stopped working. Lucky for me, I had the spare one with me when it happened. I am assuming that I need to change the battery in it, but I want to make sure I don’t completely break it. How do you change the battery in a Toyota smart key?

is an awesome feature on any car, but…key fob batteries die with no warning at all—you were fortunate to have a backup with you! Here are the steps to get you up and running again:
- Locate and remove the emergency blade. This is found on the bottom of the key fob, where the ring is attached. Pull the blade release tab and remove the emergency blade.
- Under the blade is a slot. Insert the tip of the blade into the slot, and twist to pry open the key fob. Keep the fob facing up (with the Toyota logo facing up) during this process.
- Remove the dead battery—you may need to pop it out using your fingernail or the key blade.
- Install the new battery with the positive (+) side facing up
- Snap the battery cover back together
- Test the key fob using the lock and unlock buttons on the back, and by starting the car.
