How do you change the battery in a Honda Civic key fob?

What’s the best way for me to change the battery in my Honda Civic key fob? It hasn’t been working lately, and I think the battery is dead.

While changing the battery in your keyfob can be a tricky process, it gets a lot easier with a little practice! Here’s how to change the battery in your Honda Civic key fob:
  • First, you’ll need to remove the metal key in the fob. Some models will have a key release button, but others will be secured with a screw, which you’ll need to remove.
  • Once you’ve removed the key, use a flathead screwdriver to pop open the back of the key fob.
  • Press your thumb down on the area around the battery to make sure all the parts stay together.
  • Using your free hand, remove the old battery and replace it with a new battery. You can find the recommended battery type in your owner’s manual.
  • Once your new battery is in place, slip on the back of the keyfob and reattach the metal key.
