How do you change the battery in a Honda City car key?

The key fob for my Honda has been acting really spotty. Sometimes it doesn’t work at all! I can only guess it has something to do with the key battery. How do you change the battery in a Honda City car key?

To change the car key battery in your Honda, start by finding out what type of battery you need to purchase. You can usually find the battery type on the back of the key fob, in your owner’s manual, or engraved on the battery itself.
Once you know what battery you need:
  • Open your key fob: Loosen and remove the small screw that holds the key fob together using a screwdriver, then pry the two halves of the fob apart.
  • Remove the dead battery and replace it with the new one. Replace the new battery as noted on the inside of the fob or in your manual. Also, be careful not to touch the battery terminals with your fingers as it could damage the key fob.
  • Reassemble your Honda key fob and voila, your key should now work properly!
