How do you change the battery in a BMW key fob?

Last year, my father gave me his BMW. Recently, I’ve noticed the key fob’s distance has decreased significantly. I’m assuming this means it’s time to replace the battery, but I’ve never done it before. How can I change the battery in my BMW key fob?

If you’re experiencing a decrease in your key fob’s effectiveness, you more than likely need a battery replacement or a long recharge.
Depending on the type of key fob you have, you may be able to recharge your key fob by going on a long drive. Some
BMW
key fobs recharge through the ignition and need about two hours for a full charge. Non-comfort access key fobs are rechargeable, so you won’t be able to open them to replace the battery.
If you have a smart key or comfort access key, you can change the battery on your BMW by following these instructions:
  1. Purchase a CR2032 battery from your local department store or auto shop. It should cost about $2.
  2. Press down the tab on the key fob that removes your metal key.
  3. Insert the key or a flathead screwdriver into the small port you’ve just revealed. Then, remove the battery cover.
  4. Carefully remove the dying battery and insert the fresh one.
  5. Close the fob and return the metal key.
Now that you have successfully changed your key fob battery, you can enjoy the convenience of locking and unlocking your BMW from a distance. If you’re interested in more car-related conveniences, check out the
