How do you change a tire on a Ford Transit?

I drive a Ford Transit as a volunteer for my church and I think the tire is going flat. I’ve never changed a tire before, but I have the time so I want to take care of it if it’s a simple process. How do you put a spare tire on a van?

It’s great that you’re taking the initiative and trying to learn something new in order to help others! Since you’ve never changed a tire on a van like this before, you may want the help of another person.
To get started, you will need:
  • A spare tire
  • A carjack
  • Lug wrench or tire iron
  • Work gloves
  • A tire repair tool kit
Start by making sure that you are parked on level ground—a parking garage, parking lot, or flat driveway are all good places. Retrieve the spare tire, tool kit, and carjack. Loosen the lug nuts a quarter of the way using a lug wrench or tire iron.
Jack up the van by placing the carjack at one of the lift points of the van so that the tire needing to be changed is elevated off the ground. Remove the lug nuts fully, then remove the tire.
Put the replacement tire on the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts before lowering it back down to the ground. Adjust the lug nuts one final time, and you’re good to go!
