When building a mud truck, most people choose to modify trucks and their engines. Building your own motor is difficult if you don’t have the right expertise, but you can modify an existing truck’s engine to your needs.
To do so, start by finding a truck that has a big enough engine and an automatic transmission. This will ensure it can handle the mud and any modifications you make.
Once you lift the truck, install lower gears to maximize your engine’s performance. From there, attach a snorkel system on your engine. This will prevent your engine’s air intake system from sucking in mud or water. Finish the job by sealing all electrical components in silicone to prevent water damage.
If you want to continue to modify your engine, you can do so with performance parts. This will increase the horsepower of your engine. Depending on what you can afford, you can begin to make these modifications over time.
Since you’re
making a modification
, you should also inform your car insurance company. While many policies have $1,000 worth of modification coverage, building a mud truck will cost more than this limit.
