How do you avoid Atlanta when driving to Florida?

My family and I are planning a trip to Disney World this summer, and we’re trying to find the fastest route to Orlando. It looks like all the GPS directions have us going through Atlanta to reach Florida, but I don’t want to have to deal with the inevitable traffic. Can you drive to Florida without going through Atlanta?

Orlando
is such a great place to vacation with your family—especially if your kids are into Disney. Of course, you’ll want to minimize travel time with little ones in the car.
So, the best way to avoid Atlanta when driving to
Florida
is by going around it on I-285.
Atlanta is notorious for its
traffic jams
. Part of the problem is three major interstates pass through the city:
  • I-20
  • I-75
  • I-85
Some drivers looking to avoid the traffic schedule their trips so that they pass through the city in the middle of the night, while others will go hours out of their way to avoid the Atlanta metro altogether. If you don’t want to do either, a simple fix is to use I-285.
I-285 rings Atlanta and connects the three interstates that pass through it. When you’re approaching Atlanta, just exit the interstate you’re currently on and follow I-285 until you meet the interstate you were previously on.
Keep in mind: This little detour won’t eliminate traffic, but it’s far faster than going through the heart of the city.
