How do you adjust the headlights on a Saturn Ion?
After coming back from a road trip with my family, I noticed that my headlights are pointing down too far—I can't really see more than 10-15 feet of the road right in front of my car. I suspect they came loose driving over bumpy dirt roads. How can I adjust the headlights on my Saturn Ion so that they are in the right position?

Road trips are the best! But—some roads are better than others for your car! Fortunately, getting your headlights back in order is pretty simple.
To adjust the headlights on a
Saturn Ion
, you will need a screwdriver, a wall, some masking tape, and a flat surface to park your car. If possible, make this adjustment when the light is low (like in the evening) to help with accuracy.
- Start with your car parked just a few feet from the wall, and shine the low beams directly at the wall. Make a cross on the wall with masking tape where each headlight is centered.
- Back your car up 25 feet, and see where your low beams hit in relation to the tape.
- Locate the adjustment screws in your Ion—the screws for sealed beam units should be on the headlight assembly under the hood. Composite headlights bolted to an adjuster plate typically have the adjustment screws on the headlamp module.
- The Saturn Ion headlights have one screw each that adjust the headlights vertically. Turn the adjustment screws until the low beams are even with the tape marks on the wall, and you are all set!
