How do you add a temporary driver to your car insurance?

My girlfriend is going to go the summer without a car to save money, so we agreed it’d be smart if I brought her on my insurance for the time being. How do I add her to my insurance?

How cost-effective of you!
First and foremost, contact your insurance company. Tell them you want to add another driver to your policy. You’ll probably have to pay some kind of fee for making changes to your policy—even if the premium doesn’t change. Be prepared for your premiums to change slightly, however.
That said, your insurer may refuse to cover an extra driver. This could be for a number of reasons, but it would most likely be if her driving record has a history of incidents and she seems like a risk for the insurance company.
