How do you add a name to your car insurance?

My little sister is coming to live with us while she attends college. I want to add her name to our car insurance in case she ever needs to drive our car. How can I do that?

I hope you enjoy having your sister live with you! To add her to your insurance, you can call your insurance agent, update your policy online, or update your policy through your company’s app.
You may need to provide the following information about your sister:
  • Driver’s license number
  • Date of birth
  • Driving history, including moving violations or accidents
  • Social Security number
  • Discount eligibility (she may qualify for a good student discount)
While you’re reviewing your car insurance policy, it’s a good time to make sure you’re getting the best possible rates on the coverage you need. The Jerry app can find you cheap quotes from over 50 top insurance companies and even help you switch to a new policy if you find a better deal.

After graduating, she moved overseas and lived in South Korea where she spent her free time traveling and going on road trips with friends. She's now based outside of Chicago and when she's not writing she spends her free time reading, playing video games, and exploring whenever she can.
