How do I use a touch-up paint pen on my Honda?
I was washing my car when I noticed several chips and dings in the paint. I want to get rid of these to make my car look new. How can I use a touch-up paint pen on my Honda?

, purchase the right color of paint to match your car, mark the affected areas with painter’s tape, and use a light touch to cover them up.The best way to find matching paint is by going to your local Honda dealer. Unlike some pens you might find online or at auto parts stores, this paint will match your car’s paint exactly, making it inconspicuous to the naked eye. Expect to pay about $15 for the pen. All you need to do is give the dealer your VIN (vehicle identification number) and they should have the exact color you need.
After you have the correct touch-up paint pen, purchase a roll of blue painter’s tape. This will help you mark the affected areas so you aren’t searching over and over again.
Once you have tape and the paint pen, follow these steps:
- Put a small piece of tape to each of the spots that need a touch-up.
- Shake the pen vigorously before application to mix the paint.
- Unscrew the top of the paint pen to reveal a brush.
- Gently brush on some paint, but don’t glob it on. This will take some practice, so have a towel nearby to wipe away any excess paint.
- Let the paint dry for 30 minutes.
- Although it’s not 100% necessary, Honda touch-up paint pens come with a clear coat that you can apply to protect the exterior of your car. If you apply this, wait 30 minutes for it to dry.
- Remove the tape.
Not all chips and dings are fixable, especially if they’re deep or they require a bit of body work. If you don’t feel confident, you can always take your vehicle to a body shop.
