How do I turn off the seatbelt alarm in a 2019 Jeep Renegade?
I know I shouldn’t, but I really like to drive my Jeep without the seatbelt. I don’t think it should matter, especially if I’m off-roading in the middle of nowhere California. My 2019 Jeep Renegade has an annoying alarm that goes off when I don’t have the seatbelt on. How can I turn that off?

For legal and safety reasons, you should never drive without your seatbelt on—for any reason. If however, for unrelated reasons, you need to turn the seatbelt chime off, there is something you can do. You can use the Diagnostic Screen to turn off the seatbelt alarm in a 2019

. Sometimes, you might be keeping heavy cargo on one of the seats. This could trigger the seatbelt chime even though no one is sitting there. If that has been happening—and you want to turn the seatbelt chime off for that reason–there is a trick that some
Jeep
owners use.Here’s what you’ll need to do:
- Sitting in the Jeep with it off, put the seatbelt on.
- Turn the Jeep on by pressing the ignition button twice. Make sure you’re not pressing on the brake.
- The diagnostic screen will turn on and show the seatbelt warning indicator. Once that goes away, quickly disconnect and then reconnect the seatbelt three times.
- Turn the Jeep off.
From then on, when your Jeep is running, the seatbelt chime will not sound—though the display will still show the visual warning. To re-enable the chime, simply repeat the process.
This trick should never be used to circumvent the proper use of the seatbelt safety function as required by law. The best (and only legal) way to prevent the seatbelt chime while driving, is to ensure that the driver and all passengers are wearing their seatbelts.
