How do I transfer car insurance online?
I plan on buying a new Acura tomorrow. I already have a car insurance policy with Progressive. Can I transfer my existing insurance to my new vehicle?

You’ll need the Acura’s vehicle identification number (VIN) to do so. Once you have it, access your online account with
Progressive
and search for the appropriate place to add a vehicle to your policy. If you need to change your coverage to suit your new car, you should be able to do that while you’re logged in, as well.Once added, your
policy declaration page
should update automatically and reflect the changes made. If it doesn’t, you can always call Progressive to confirm and request proof of insurance.Should you need to remove your old car, you can do that online, too—after you’ve added your new car. If you remove it beforehand, your policy will cancel as there’s no vehicle listed to insure.
While Progressive does give you a 30-day grace period to add a new car to your
car insurance
policy, it’s better to do so sooner. Your current coverage does extend to the new car right away, but the dealership often likes to see proof that the vehicle is properly insured prior to handing over the keys.Although you may want to stay with Progressive, it never hurts to shop around when getting a new car. Rates vary between companies and cars. Adding your new vehicle could impact your rate, so comparison shopping ensures you’re paying the lowest price possible.
