How do I touch up deep car scratches?

My wife was in labor two weeks ago, and I unfortunately hit a couple of signs and barriers on the way to the hospital. No damage was done to any property that wasn’t my own, but I was just so nervous with the baby on the way. Now that the baby is here and healthy, I can see that my Nissan has some serious scratches in it. How can I touch up the deep scratches on my car?

Congratulations on the new baby—and on getting yourself and your wife to the hospital safely despite the nerves! The best place to start in
removing a scratch
is with a scratch kit, which will provide the necessary tools and instructions to remove moderately deep scratches. The process is very simple:
  • Clean the area surrounding the scratches with soap and water.
  • Apply the scratch removal paste to a microfiber cloth or buffing pad (whichever comes with your kit).
  • Use the cloth to remove the scratches by rubbing the paste onto and over the scratches. Take your time - this process may take several minutes.
  • Remove any excess paste, and voilà!
If you find that a scratch is too deep for the kit, apply a glazing putty to fill in the scratch and allow it to cure for two or three minutes.
While you’re letting it cure, you might want to take a moment to review your car insurance policy. With a new baby in your family, it never hurts to cut costs where you can, and the
